  2/17 — Cochinchina Campaign: The French Navy captured the Citadel of Saigon, a fortress that was manned by 1,000 Nguyễn dynasty soldiers, en route to conquering Saigon and other regions of southern Viet Nam.

• 1962

  2/27 — Two dissident Republic of Vietnam Air Force pilots bomb the Independence Palace in Saigon in a failed attempt to assassinate South Vietnam President Ngô Đình Diệm.

  6/11 — 仏教僧侣ティック・クアン・ドックが、ベトナム共和国の宗教的自由の欠如に対する抗議として、シエゴンの繁華な交差点でガソリンで自殺した。

  5/2 — Vietnam War: An explosion sinks the American aircraft carrier USS Card while it is docked at Saigon. A North Vietnamese frogman had placed a bomb on the ship. She is raised and returned to service less than seven months later.

  4/25 — 北ベトナム軍が南ベトナムの首都サイゴンに迫る中、オーストラリア大使館が閉鎖され、約10年前にオーストラリアが初めて南ベトナムに軍を派遣した日とほぼ同時に避難した。
