  9/12 — Salisbury, Rhodesia, is founded.

  12/31 — The Central African Federation officially collapses, subsequently becoming Zambia, Malawi and Rhodesia.

  1/1 — The Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland is divided into the independent republics of Zambia and Malawi, and the British-controlled Rhodesia.

• 1965

  11/11 — In Rhodesia (modern-day Zimbabwe), the white-minority government of Ian Smith unilaterally declares independence.

• 1968

  3/6 — Three rebels are executed by Rhodesia, the first executions since UDI, prompting international condemnation.

• 1970

  4/18 — Die Republik Simbabwe (früher Rhodesien) entsteht, mit Canaan Banana als erstem Präsidenten des Landes. Der simbabwische Dollar ersetzt den rhodesischen Dollar als offizielle Währung.
